Reduction in fine dust

#6 Together, and on a larger scale

SIITA conducted a tree-planting campaign in celebration of Arbor Day. The profits generated through customers’ participation have allowed us to make a positive impact on increase of annual oxygen emissions and reduce fine dust levels. The care and support we collectively extend to nature will yield even greater rewards.

Together with ‘Green Fund’, Korea’s first environment-dedicated public foundation

‘Green Fund’ is Korea’s inaugural public foundation established in 2002, devoted to environmental protection. It serves as a practical community that partners with the government, civil society, and businesses to promote sustainability on Earth.
Operating under the slogan "Green leaders will change the world," it has fostered 5 million green leaders and spearheaded global environmental campaigns.

The Green Fund is a prominent environmental organization, holding a position as a member of the UN ECOSOC and UN Global Compact. It has co-authored nine reports on the global environment in collaboration with the U.S. World Watch Research Institute. The Green Fund maintains an extensive global network through partnerships with international NGOs and specialized institutions like ASOC, Connect4Climate, and Green Film Network.
Furthermore, it actively participates in a wide range of initiatives, including the Asia Grant program, support for solar energy, establishment of wells and rainwater utilization facilities, creation of eco-villages, and the hosting of the Asia Environment Forum in collaboration with 55 organizations from 18 countries to empower Asia, a region susceptible to climate change, to overcome environmental challenges and enhance its self-reliance in addressing related issues.

According to data from the National Institute of Forest Science, global warming and indiscriminate development have reduced the total area of honey plants to 146,000 hectares as of 2020. This marks a decrease of about 70% (from 478,000 hectares in the 1970s to the 1980s), which is equivalent to a reduction of 1.8 times the size of Jeju Island or 1,145 times the size of Yeouido Island. Upon recognizing this fact, we shifted our focus to the dwindling honeybee population that depends on these honey plants. It’s important to highlight that honeybees play a crucial role in pollinating plants, and their extinction could have severe consequences for plant life, which directly relates to the availability of food resources essential for human survival.

Through the ‘Green Fund’, we implanted 150 honey plants including Hovenia and Bee-bee trees. This translates to an annual rise of 180 tons in oxygen emissions, the preservation of 1,600 honeybees, and an annual reduction of 3,560 grams of fine dust. We remain committed to contributing continuously, showing ongoing interest in reforestation for the restoration of ecosystems and the development of a healthier planet.
